What’s the Difference Between The World Shared Hosting Offer and the HybridCloud Dedicated Server?

In a world of ever-changing hosting offerings, what sets one apart from another?

Let’s focus on PlanetHoster.

Did you know that we were among the first to launch site isolation per account with our The World shared hosting offer? Instead of offering you a mega account where you put all your sites, we prefer to offer you a large number of highly scalable resources, and YOU decide how many accounts you want to create.

At the same time, we offer a range of performance tools included free of charge: LSCache, Redis and Memcached. Thanks to them, you can assign the smallest possible number of resources to the account, and it’s still ultra high-performance. Not only does it save you money, it’s also more environmentally friendly.

We have two hosting products:

All powered by our famous unified control panel, tailor-made by hosting experts for over 15 years: N0C.

Let’s break it down.

What is The World Shared Hosting?

In the past, the standard in shared hosting was to offer a hosting account where the hosted put all their sites. When one site experienced problems, all the others were affected, because they all shared the same account.

PlanetHoster started thinking about an alternative. How could we isolate the most sites per account and offer the best value for money?

That’s when The World shared hosting was born. Stable for several years now, The World offers fine-tuned resource management, ease of use and commendable performance/stability/security.

Management is performed from :

The World puts you back in control of shared hosting.

For example, with the starting package at 72 euros, you can create 8 separate accounts on separate servers, in France/Switzerland or Canada! Each account has its own resources, a dedicated Redis and/or Memcached instance, and advanced LSCache caching is included free of charge.

It’s worth noting that an account with 1 CPU, 1 GB RAM and 1 MB/s IO can support thousands of visits thanks to PlanetHoster’s no-cost technologies, such as the dedicated Redis instance, Memcached, LSCache and more. There are still hosting providers offering a shared hosting account with these resources (1 CPU, 1 GB RAM and 1 MB/s IO) for USD 100 per year.

Each account is on an independent infrastructure, so different IP addresses and much more.

For huge e-commerce stores, we offer Pro accounts with the same product. It’s very simple. You have The World shared hosting, you activate the Pro option for a second one and then you create a Pro account with a minimum of 8 CPU, 8GB RAM and 16 MB/s IO, and the account will be placed on a “semi-dedicated” server. This means that there are VERY FEW accounts on this server. It will also benefit from Litespeed Enterprise with LiteMage included. The major difference is that Litespeed Enterprise supports ESI caching, which is highly recommended for e-commerce stores. LiteMage, on the other hand, is a must-have for Magento.

It’s important to remember that this isn’t a resource war. There are other companies who offer immense resources that make no sense, and despite this, some hosts experience performance problems. At PlanetHoster, our infrastructure is optimized and designed from the ground up by our team with over 15 years’ experience. There are several proprietary systems at PlanetHoster so that a 1 CPU / 1 GB RAM / 1 IO account outperforms accounts with dozens of CPUs!

As for disk space, by default two types are included:

  • Premium disk space;
  • massive disk space.

Premium Disk Space

This is where php files, mail, databases etc. go.

Storage is distributed 3N, 100 % SSD/NVMe. For every GB you upload, it actually takes 3 GB. This ensures performance, integrity and stability.

“Best-Efforts” Premium Disk Space

Since this is shared hosting, the quality of service (QoS) related to it is “Best-Efforts”. This is similar to the marketing term “unlimited”, but in reality we prefer to say non-measured. It means that disk space depends on the overall capacity utilization of the infrastructure. Subject to precise usage rules (no mass storage allowed, etc.). Perfect for standard needs.

“Dedicated” Premium Disk Space

Coming soon, we’ll be offering “Dedicated” usage. This is 100 % dedicated premium disk space. You do what you want, we have nothing to say. Perfect for the most demanding needs. It’s the same storage platform as our HybridCloud dedicated servers!

You’ll be able to upgrade to “Dedicated” premium disk space instantly, with no need to migrate anything.

Massive Disk Space

This is revolutionary. By default, each of your accounts on The World shared hosting has an instance of massive disk space. For example, if you had 100 accounts, you’d have 100 independent instances of massive disk space. Only usage is counted. This is based on our “N0C-Storage” platform. It’s a custom-built, multi-PB platform.

It’s S3-compatible, managed from the hosting’s file manager, and the data is accessible on the path or domain of your choice. See https://kb.n0c.com/en/knowledge-base/how-to-use-n0c-storage/ for more information.

We include 100 GB free of charge and you can increase this to several TB for only 0.04 euros/GB. Traffic is unlimited and there are no other charges.

Perfect for storing your thousands of cat images, for example 🙂

What is the HybridCloud Dedicated Server?

The best example is when you have the whole server. On The World shared hosting, when you create an account, it’s placed on a server with other customers on it. When you take a HybridCloud dedicated server, well, you own the whole server. You can create as many accounts as you like on it at no charge.

Since you own the entire server, resources are 100 % dedicated. You get the best quality of service, stability and security. What’s more, you can manage the resources of every account you create on it. So a single account failure won’t bring down the whole server.

All this can be managed from the customer area, the API or the WHMCS module. Easy, simple and secure.

You get full 24/7 managed dedicated server from our experienced team.

Everything is included free of charge on the HybridCloud dedicated server.

The only option is the :

  • Apache with Litespeed acceleration (default);
  • Litespeed Enterprise with litemage.

Disk space is premium by default. Also, each HybridCloud server comes with 200 GB of massive disk space that you can use on any account.

You can easily migrate an account on The World shared hosting to your own HybridCloud dedicated server. And of course, you can have multiple HybridCloud dedicated servers for maximum flexibility.

What is N0C?

This is our custom-built control panel. It was designed from A to Z by our team of hosting experts with over 15 years’ experience. All our developers are based in our Quebec offices; we don’t outsource anything.

N0C is solid, secure and high-performance. It now powers over 200,000 sites.

We’re constantly adding new features, such as Postgresql v16, dedicated Redis/Memcached instances, and so on.

Many people wonder how we can offer such good value for money?

Simple: we have our own server rooms in France, Switzerland and Canada. We have our own transcontinental Internet network (AS53589). We have our own long-distance wave fibers linking our facilities from Montreal to Paris, Paris to Lausanne.

We have in-house cloud expertise. We’ve been Openstack activists and involved in several opensource projects since 2015.

In fact, The World shared hosting and HybridCloud dedicated server are based on an internally managed cloud infrastructure. It is horizontally scalable. This means you can hot-add power quickly. We’ve also been accredited by ICANN since 2015 and by several registries (AFNIC, CIRA, etc.). So there’s no middleman for your domain names.

Finally, we don’t depend on any external software, compared to our peers who have to use paid control panels that are managed by greedy investment firms.

24/7 support from our technical team, no outsourcing. N+N infrastructure.

In short, when PlanetHoster does something, we do it well and with a long-term vision. Hosted customers enjoy peace of mind and save money.
