Promotions
We would like to mention two promotions that relate to the cost of the domain name and the transition to HybridCloud N0C. We strongly recommend that you pay particular attention to them.
Invoicing of The Domain Name Included in the Hosting Service As Of January 31
Since September 2, 2024, the free domain name has been excluded from new orders. From January 31, 2025, this new measure will also apply to customers with a domain name who currently have an active web hosting plan.
Why This Change?
PlanetHoster is committed to maintaining the most competitive pricing possible for the various offerings – such as hosting – and the new ones we are about to introduce.
Globally, charging for domain name renewals from January 31, 2025 onwards will contribute to this commitment.
How do I Renew My Services?
We know that renewing a domain name over a longer period of time guarantees the current rate, rather than incurring an annual increase in domain costs.
It is possible to define your billing cycle up to a ten-year frequency (every 10 years). The procedure is explained in our knowledge base article The World: Getting Started Guide (or HybridCloud: Startup Guide, as the case may be).

Infrastructure
PlanetHoster uses the same infrastructure as its customers. Here are a few recent measures of particular interest to mention:
- Prevention of DDoS or attacks attempting to compromise targeted networks by always ensuring increased network and anti-DDoS capacities. Several new 100 GE links have also been added.
- Use of Node.js software infrastructure on N0C (see guide and video in French language).
- Activation of our 100GE port on the Toronto Internet Exchange (TorIX) last September.
File Classification in N0C Storage with Akeeba Backup
For our readers who may not be familiar with N0C Storage, it is a platform designed to store massive files such as backups, archives and items that do not require a solide-state drive (SSD). As such, it can host image, video and other large files for your website. It is also designed to be used as a CDN to host your static files.
The platform has recently seen the addition of a very powerful tool. The AKEEBA BACKUP FOR JOOMLA AND WORDPRESS plug-in now makes it easy to secure your Joomla! and WordPress environment.
Simply download the prefabricated configuration file which, once imported into Akeeba, allows you to keep your files in N0C Storage by connecting directly to S3. For further details, please refer to the “Quick Setups” paragraph in the How to use N0C Storage article.
Remark
If you are having difficulties, you will need to configure it manually. The article How to Use N0C Storage as Backup Destination for Akeeba Backup in Joomla! will guide you in this direction (a similar article on WordPress is currently being written).
SQL Engines in N0C
The recent addition of MemCached and the Redis SQL engine to the choices available in N0C is an eloquent example of the kind of technological advances we hold dear.
In the same vein, by 2025, some of the projects we are currently working on or will initiate will add enormously to N0C’s already unique character, to the point where users will find that the platform will be very different from what they have known up to now.
Such is the case with the addition of PostgreSQL. As explained in our knowledge base article How to Manage MySQL and PostgreSQL Databases, some powerful features, currently in beta testing, will be rolled out to all users.

We must continually update the knowledge base of My (the client area) and the N0C knowledge base to keep them in line with recent technological advances. In the last three months, the following articles have been added or modified.

Events in France
NDDCamp
PlanetHoster supports NDDCamp, a series of conferences and workshops dedicated to key domain name topics. Indeed, these initiatives reflect our dedication not only to domain name registration, but also to contributing to the information and communication technology community.
We will be there for the next edition in Strasbourg, on March 21, 2025.
JoomlaDay
As an annual event, JoomalDay is an opportunity for users in the French Joomla! community to meet, exchange ideas and discover the latest trends in web development and design.
This year, JoomalDay took place on October 18 and 19 in Metz, France. We were there!
SEOSummit2024
Two PlanetHoster employees took part in the SEOSummit2024, December 5-6 at the Grand Rex in Paris. At their booth, they also represented PlanetHoster.
The aim was to be there for customers, as well as to make new contacts. Mission accomplished: our two delegates had the chance to meet the key players in the SEO community, many of whom are also PlanetHoster’s customers.
Marc-André Beaulieu, our technical support representative, noted that having the chance to meet the people with whom PlanetHoster has often dealt by ticket was priceless. Not to mention that he was delighted with his first flight, to the Ville lumière!
All in all, it was an enriching experience for our two employees. They would like to thank Mr. Elliott Bobiet and the organizers once again.

FOSDEM
FOSDEM is a free event where software developers can meet, exchange ideas and collaborate.
Every year, thousands of open source developers from all over the world gather in Brussels. An interesting feature of this event is that there is no need to register, as all you have to do is turn up and take part!
PlanetHoster will be present at FOSDEM 2025, from February 1 to 2 in Brussels.
Config Management Camp
An event in Ghent caught our attention. It was the Config Management Camp.
This event is designed for technologists interested in open source infrastructure automation and related topics. This includes, among other things: open source configuration management, IT service allocation (provisioning), orchestration, choreography, container operations, and many other topics.
We will be keeping an eye out for the 2025 edition, which will take place from February 3 to 5.

Hackfest
Hackfest was created to raise public and corporate awareness of computer security prevention. Each year, a conference is organized for this purpose. Among other things, it is then possible to take part in capture the flag (CTF) competitions, where participants compete to solve cybersecurity puzzles and problems.
In addition to the annual conference, Hackfest offers a range of services for businesses, including CTFs, conferences and training courses. School conferences are even organized!
This year’s Hackfest annual conference took place in October 2024 at the Quebec City Convention Centre. PlanetHoster is one of the sponsors. We will be there from October 16 to 19, 2025.

Conference RDV e-commerce
On October 22, 2024, at the ITHQ in Montreal, we were delighted to support the conference at RDV e-commerce. Our expert, Ms. Violetta Potapova, joined Mr. Francis Coauts, Eng. PSP CISSP from ETS Formation, a recognized expert in information security. Together, they discussed essential strategies for protecting virtual transactions by identifying and combating often overlooked security blind spots.
It was a valuable opportunity for participants to deepen their knowledge and strengthen the security of their online business.
Forum InCyber Canada
The main objective of this event is to bring together a large number of cybersecurity players from all over the world, so that they can interact on the subject, sharing their achievements and building relationships based on mutual trust.
We were able to experience all the benefits when we were last there, on October 29-30, 2024, in Montreal. The next edition of the InCyber Canada Forum will take place from October 14 to 15, 2025.
Confoo
ConFoo is a multi-technology conference for developers. Popular international speakers deliver presentations focused on pragmatic solutions for developers.
To make sure we do not miss the 2025 edition of ConFoo, the dates of February 26 to 28 are marked on our calendars.
Forum In
Our readers will recall that on February 15, 2024, in conjunction with Hydro-Québec and Laval Economic, PlanetHoster was a partner in the third edition of Forum IN! organized by Laval Innov.
PlanetHoster was particularly interested in the integration of artificial intelligence in business. Thanks to the Quebec Innovation Council for this panel.
The next Forum IN! is scheduled for February 27, 2025. Another not-to-be-missed event!
CEO Vision
CEO Vision is organized by the Quebec Technology Association. In the words of the organizers, the event is a unique North American summit “exclusive to visionary CEOs who want to make their mark here and abroad”. By participating, PlanetHoster joins “the most influential leaders in Quebec’s technology industry”.
The next edition will take place from April 8 to 10, 2025, at the Fairmont Mont Tremblant. The enchanting setting of the Laurentian Mountains, north of Montreal, lends itself perfectly to the networking and exchange of views that are conducive to the blossoming of new ideas.
Donations and Support to CFP des riverains
The Centre de formation professionnelle des Riverains offers a variety of study programs, including computer support. PlanetHoster makes donations to support this professional training center.
Violetta Potapova and Félix Paradis had a great time running an SEO workshop with some incredibly talented young people! Not only did we have a lot of fun together, but we were also impressed by how quickly these young people had already mastered the basics of SEO after just two weeks!
Scholarships
When he founded the Argenteuil Kung Fu School in May 2019, the author of these lines could not suspect that, one day, his boss and a colleague would do him the honor of traveling to Brownsburg-Chatham to present three scholarships to his students. But that is exactly what happened on November 30, when Mr. Shenouda and Mrs. Potapova attended his school’s Christmas party and kung-fu demonstration. Needless to say, he is extremely grateful for this gesture of generosity, as is the Argenteuil community.
The students of the École de Shaolin Wing Chun kung-fu d’Argenteuil who received these scholarships are recognized for their academic potential and their seriousness in the practice of Wing Chun kung-fu, a particularly demanding martial art. In presenting the scholarships, Mr. Shenouda remarked: “[…] You have to be strong to overcome certain situations. I believe that sport and the martial arts forge the mind and also the body. That is why I am pleased to be able to offer scholarships in the name of PlanetHoster […]”. He added that “[…] it is this mentality of persevering, this mentality of being exceptional in our lives, of fighting against ourselves to be the best, to be better people […]” that is valued by PlanetHoster.

An Update on Our Current Web Hosting Projects

Strapi
It will soon be possible to install Strapi on your The World hosting with PlanetHoster.
Strapi is a headless CMS, meaning you can create a customizable back-end application that generates an API for you. Then, you are free to use the framework of your choice and call on this API to display the content on your website.
As a prerequisite, you will need to have your Strapi project up and running locally. It is advisable to have a The World with at least the following resources: 4 CPU, 4 MEM and 8 MB/s IO.
Upgrade to VPN Version 2 From PlanetHoster
PlanetHoster VPN will also be upgrade to version 2 (VPN V2) very soon.
