How to Choose a Domain in TBR

In this blog, we will explain the steps you need to take to get a domain on the TBR list with PlanetHoster.

A to be released (TBR) session is a process by which CIRA reveals in a list the previously registered and recently deleted .ca domains that are to be released. CIRA publishes this list via the TBR session every Wednesday at 19:00 (UTC).

Only registrars who offer TBR as a service can participate in the session. Therefore, if there is a domain name on the TBR list that you wish to register, you must contact one of these registrars. PlanetHoster is one registrar (aka drop catcher) that offers the TBR service, as you can see by consulting the complete list of these registrars.

We encourage you to do business with us, as our prices are very competitive. What is more, we can register .ca domain names before they enter the public domain.

Steps to Follow

Step 1 : Consult the TBR list

Consult theTBR list to find out which domains will be included in future TBR sessions.

Domains deleted between Monday at 7:00 (UTC) and Wednesday at 19:00 (UTC) will be transferred to the following week’s TBR session. A domain will therefore appear on the TBR list for between 2.5 and 9.5 days.

If you are wondering about a particular domain that has not yet expired and that you would like to use, it will appear in the TBR list between 32 and 78 days after the expiration date (if the current holder does not redeem it).

Step 2: Create an account and add funds

If you have not already done so, you need to create an account with PlanetHoster.

You must also add funds to your account to cover the fees we will use to take the domain for you. The cost includes a one-time fee of $34.00, plus the regular annual registration fee of $10.99, for a total of $44.99 CDN for a .ca domain.

Step 3: Execute the command

Once the funds are in the account, you need to create a ticket with the domain name(s) to be registered.

This request must be made before 2:00 pm on Tuesdays.

Your order is now considered pending.

Step 4: Wait for PlanetHoster to contact you

During the TBR session, PlanetHoster will attempt to obtain the domain(s) on your behalf.

You can monitor the TBR process. For each domain, the date and time of the end of the session are available via the View latest results button:

PlanetHoster will contact you within 72 business hours of the end of the TBR session. You will then be able to use your .CA as soon as it is registered.
